Smart Bulb Troubleshooting and Care Tips

Bulb won't connect during setup

  • Make sure you're on a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network — many bulbs don't support 5GHz.
  • Keep the bulb close to the router during pairing.
  • Put the bulb into pairing mode (it usually blinks; toggling power on/off a few times often triggers it).
  • Double-check your Wi-Fi password in the app.

Bulb keeps going offline

The most common cause is the wall switch being turned off — a smart bulb needs constant power. Keep the switch on. If it still drops, weak Wi-Fi may be the issue; move the router closer or add a Wi-Fi extender.

Voice control isn't working

Re-check that the bulb is linked in your Alexa/Google app and that the device names match your command. Re-syncing devices in the assistant app usually fixes it.

Bulb is unresponsive in the app

Toggle power off and on, restart the app, and check your internet. If it's still stuck, removing and re-adding the device in the app resolves most glitches.

Flickering or wrong colour

Flickering can come from a dimmer switch — smart bulbs should be on a normal (non-dimmer) circuit and dimmed via the app instead. For colour issues, reset the bulb and reconfigure.

Care for long life

Smart bulbs are LED and low-maintenance, but avoid enclosed, unventilated fixtures that trap heat, keep them dust-free, and don't use them in damp spots unless they're rated for it. Keep the app updated for the latest fixes and features.

When to reset

A factory reset (per the bulb's instructions) is the catch-all fix for persistent problems before reconnecting from scratch.
